Located on the corner of Old Street and Shoreditch High Street, The Cornershop is one of the best places you will find to have a drink on any day of the week. Its unique décor and friendly staff make it the perfect place to settle down for a few drinks over lunch, after work or even on a night out.
The first thing you notice upon entering The Cornershop is the feel of the place: quirky wallpaper, dusty portraits and candles dripping wax down old spirit bottles. It all makes for a cosy stay. The comic strip wall paper in the toilets is a novel, albeit unexpected touch but beware, standing and reading it might draw a few odd looks from the toilet attendant.
After locating a free table (not always the easiest task at The Cornershop) it is well worth browsing the food menu to see what is on offer. Whilst you might not have planned on eating, after seeing some of the plates coming out of the kitchen you might change your mind. With a great selection of sharing platters, steaks, burgers, pizzas and more – all made in house – who can blame you?
As for drinks, happy hour at The Cornershop runs from 3-7pm every day. Yes that is a four hour (!) happy hour. This, amongst plenty other reasons, is no doubt a reason for why The Cornershop always seems to be bustling at whatever time of day.
There’s also entertainment. Events happen every night of the week downstairs, including open mic on Mondays and live DJs on Fridays and Saturdays. Wednesday night sees stand-up comedy and whilst the acts may never grace the Wembley stage, for free entry you’ll do a surprising amount of laughing.
Whilst the crowds at The Cornershop can sometimes make it a bit too cosy, this can be said for a lot of Shoreditch venues nowadays. However unlike a lot of venues, you will always feel welcome and have no trouble getting relaxed. The Cornershop is definitely up there as one of our favourite watering holes.
